    Palatine

    history
    Next to the Colosseum and the Forum, is the Palatine (The Palatin Hill).
    According to the legends, the city of Rome was founded here in 753 BC.
    It contains relics from ancient times, including the Palace of Septimus Severus, the House of Augustus and the House of Livia.
    The picture on the left shows the the imperial palace on the Palatine.
    Circo Massimo, once an huge arena for chariot racing, is the open area.
    The picture to the right is inside the Palatine.

    location & tickets
    A combined ticket (Colosseum + Palatine) is €11.50 and valid for 24h. In the Palatine was hardly a waiting time.
    When we were there (July 2006, in the afternoon), there were long queues in the Colosseum for the ticket windows.
    A single ticket for the Colosseum is €10.
    Children under 18 and living in the EU have free admission. Their ID-card is required.

    The nearest metro station is: "Colosseo".
